How the solution connects

Independent uplinks meet a controlled network boundary. Local access is separated by purpose.

The challenge on the ground

A temporary compound can change location several times before permanent services are commissioned. Metal cabins reduce cellular and Wi-Fi signals, while cranes, scaffolding and new structures can obstruct a satellite view that was clear at the start.

Installing a router beside a window is not a repeatable connectivity plan.

Inside the design

Use the satellite terminal as an Ethernet WAN into a RUTC50, with cellular as the second transport. Feed a managed switch and indoor CW9172I APs from its LAN. Keep staff, subcontractor guest access and connected site equipment separate.

The router selects a usable WAN; this arrangement does not bond satellite and cellular into one session-preserving tunnel. Use Peplink with an appropriate endpoint if the project specifically requires that behaviour.

Operating it day to day

Choose a protected, ventilated location for the router and switch. Survey carrier reception outside the metal cabin before deciding whether external antennas are needed.

Keep the satellite mount, cable route and electrical protection in the temporary-works plan. Rate-limit large cloud synchronisations during busy meetings, review cellular consumption weekly and recheck the satellite obstruction view when the site changes.

What to test before handover

  1. Test calls and drawing downloads over each transport separately.
  2. Unplug satellite Ethernet and measure cellular recovery.
  3. Verify subcontractor devices cannot access site administration.
  4. Record cable labels and demonstrate a controlled shutdown and restart before moving the compound.

Details worth knowing

Questions before you specify

Will this work inside a steel cabin?

The indoor network will, but WAN reception must be assessed outside it. Satellite needs a suitable external view of the sky; cellular may need an external antenna.

Does the router combine satellite and 5G speeds?

This design selects or distributes traffic across WAN services. It does not provide SpeedFusion bonding or guarantee that an active session survives a path change.
