The challenge on the ground
Pharmacy applications may depend on hosted services, local printers, label systems and authentication at the same time. A WAN backup is incomplete if a terminal can reach the internet but cannot finish a dispensing workflow.
Supplier support also needs a controlled route that does not leave branch systems broadly exposed.
Inside the design
Use an MX75, compact Catalyst PoE switch and indoor CW9172I AP. Separate dispensing, administration, guests and management, and document required local discovery or printing flows. RUTM11 LTE provides the secondary WAN.
Restrict supplier access to approved systems with individual identities and a maintenance window. Match the backup platform to the actual dispensing workload rather than selecting a generic server licence.
Operating it day to day
Maintain a branch dependency map covering the application, identity, printers and external services. Establish a backup mode that preserves dispensing and support ahead of guest traffic or updates.
Coordinate restores and software changes with the dispensing supplier. Keep recovery credentials available through a controlled process when the normal server is unavailable.
What to test before handover
- Complete an agreed test dispensing workflow over LTE.
- Verify terminal-to-printer access and guest isolation.
- Restore a representative dataset with the application supplier.
- Test supplier access expiry and review the audit trail.
