Floor-standing server racks

223 products listed

Floor-standing cabinets are for comms rooms: servers, UPS units, multiple switches, and the patch fields that connect them. They carry hundreds of kilograms, so they are built around a bolted steel frame with adjustable front and rear mounting posts.

Common sizes are 22U, 27U, 32U, 42U and 47U, in 600 mm and 800 mm widths, with depths from 600 mm to 1,200 mm.

How to choose floor-standing

Width: 600 mm or 800 mm

600 mm is the standard width and fits the 19-inch mounting rails with little to spare. 800 mm adds vertical cable-management channels either side of the rails — worth it in any cabinet carrying more than two patch fields, because it is the difference between serviceable cabling and a wall of jumpers.

Airflow layout

Servers pull air front-to-back, so the cabinet needs perforated front and rear doors and blanking panels in unused U positions to stop hot air recirculating. Glass front doors belong on cabinets holding passive equipment only.

Getting it into the building

A 42U cabinet is roughly two metres tall and heavy before anything is installed. Check door heights, lift dimensions and floor loading before delivery — flat-pack cabinets exist precisely for sites where an assembled cabinet cannot be manoeuvred in.

Floor-standing — frequently asked questions

Is 42U the standard rack size?
42U is the most common full-height size and matches most data-centre planning, but 22U to 32U cabinets are often the better fit for a business comms room where the ceiling and door height are the real constraints.
Do I need 800 mm width?
If the cabinet holds more than a couple of patch panels and switches, yes — the extra 200 mm carries vertical cable management and makes future changes far easier.
